This year’s JMCWC was held in Bielefeld on September 21-23 – organized for the last 10 years by Caroline Merkel. Over 70 competitors from as far away as India and Peru were competing in the main championship, and around 20 more for the German Hectoc Championship. Today I’m pleased to share the results of the event!
Under-12s age category:
- Abhilakshya Arora (India) 1580

Under-15s age category:
- Mohammad El-Mir (Lebanon) 2331

Under-20s age category:

Cube roots challenge:
In this event, participants were given 10 exact cubes and had to find their 4-digit cube roots as quickly as possible. For example:
168,928,957,952
The three winners were:
- Mohammad El-Mir (Lebanon) in 25.36 seconds!
- Maximilian Krahn (Germany)
- Gabriel-Jordan Soto Cabezas (Peru)
German Hectoc Championship:
Participants were given 60 strings of digits to solve using the standard Hectoc rules. For example:
123456: 100 = 1 + (2 + 3 + 4) * (5 + 6)
975372: 100 = 9^(7 – 5) + 3 * 7 – 2
