Junior Mental Calculation Online Championship 2020

2020-Sep-20: Results are now available for all age categories

The Junior Mental Calculation World Championship is held every year in Germany, organized by Caroline Merkel. Their official website has all details, past results, and how to register to attend this annual competition.

While it is difficult to travel to events this year, the usual championship has been postponed until 2021. Meanwhile in September 2020 the team is organizing this special online contest!

📅 Schedule

Tuesday, June 30th: Registration deadline

Sunday, September 13th—Juniors 2 (under 15s)

Saturday, September 19th—Qualifying Round for Juniors 1 (under 12s)

Sunday, September 20th—Seniors (under 20s) and Final for Juniors 1

 

▶️ Live Stream of Competition

This contest will be streamed live so that other people can try out the questions for themselves, discover something about mental calculation, and meet the young people from around the world taking part! Any announcements during the competition will also be made here.

You can watch the streams on Facebook Live. During the Juniors 2 competition the live stream was interrupted for about 30 minutes. This should not happen again, but in any case the latest streams will be found at that link!

 

📋 Competition Format

The competition is held via video conference, with participants racing against each other to solve each calculation question.

All participants are invited to a qualification round, and the top 10+ participants from each age category will qualify for the final.

 

✍️ Preparation for the Contest

The questions will be similar to the familiar categories from the standard JMCWC categories, and contestants will have to type their answers. Here are some examples so you know exactly what to expect. Final round questions will be more difficult! All questions will be displayed in the formats given in this document.
